The designer and master weaver, Nanna Salmi lives in Lahti, Finland, has worked with weaved cotton and wool her entire life. She began working with the weave 15 years ago with hair, inspired while brushing her horses’ tail and thought perhaps she could weave the hair caught in the brush.

When she had perfected the technique, she decided to make a bracelet with a golden bit (Mistral) for the barn’s owner as a gift. They gathered the hair from three generations of the owner’s mares and created the heart-felt gift, which brought tears of joy to the recipient.

Nanna Salmi began nannasalmi as a business in 1998 and has continued to grow the line throughout Finland, Western Europe and Japan.
